R Workshop

This will be the second edition of a series of workshops dedicated to R, taking place at the Department of Statistics and Operations Research, organized under the Master Course in Biostatistics with the support of DEIO and CEAUL.


The course is dedicated to CEAUL and FCUL members but some places will be offered to the general public.


No fee is charged. Please do not enroll unless you are seriously interested in all (or almost all) of the workshops.

    • Practical exercise on R basics.
  • 18 de Outubro:
    • Working with Datasets using data.table.
    • Learn to manipulate and summarise data.
    • Exercise uses real life data using the world population data.
  • 25 de Outubro:
    • Creating HTML and PDF Documents using R Markdown.
    • Combining R programming and document writing into one process.
    • Learn how to do reproducible research.
  • 15 de Novembro:
    • Data Visualisation using ggplot2.
    • Create beautiful graphical presentations using data.
    • Customise your plots.
  • 22 de Novembro:
    • Getting Started with Git and GitHub for R Users.
    • Share you work and collaborate on-line using R.
    • Keep a history and backups of your work.
  • 29 de Novembro:
    • Workshops Review & Using R in Real-life.
    • Review of previous workshops.
    • Practical exercise to spot common errors.
  • 6 de Dezembro:
    • Case study: Women in Parliament Data.
    • Use data.table and ggplot to work with real data.
    • Practice reproducible research using a real life example.
  • 13 de Dezembro:
    • Bring your data.
    • Use R, data.table and ggplot on your data.
    • Support to get you started.

The short course is organized by Mestrado em Bioestatística, with Centro de Estatística e Aplicações da Universidade de Lisboa (CEAUL) and DEIO.
