Abstract:
The research conducted at CREEM focuses on developing statistical methods for assessing various aspects of wildlife populations. During my time at CREEM as a PhD student and postdoc I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of models. These include distance sampling (a suite of methods for assessing wildlife abundance), hierarchical Bayes (models for assessing movement and health of the endangered north Atlantic right whale), trends in biodiversity for British breeding birds and calibration of size estimates of dolphin groups made by observers on ship-based surveys in the eastern tropical Pacific. During the presentation I will explain the type of data collected, the statistical methods as well as results for the respective studies.
