Abstract:
Regression models for survival data with a surviving fraction (also known as cure rate models or long-term survival models) play an important role in survival analysis. We define a power series beta Weibull regression model to predict the recurrence and cure of breast cancer more accurately for women who had been treated with mastectomy and axillary lymph node dissection at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (New York). Parametric inference is addressed based on standard likelihood techniques. We perform two simulation studies to examine the accuracy of the maximum likelihood estimates.
