 The One-day Workshop on Spatio-temporal Models in Epidemiology and Health

Taking place in Lisbon on June 20th, 2014, is organized by the Centre of Statistics and its Applications of the University of Lisbon (CEAUL), under the ambit of the projects Statistical Methods in Environmental and Epidemiological Processes FCT: PTDC/MAT/118335/2010 and FCT: PEst-OE/MAT/UI0006/2014.

GOALS
The workshop aims to

  • bring together researchers who work with epidemiology and health sciences;
  • promote a fruitful discussion on the role of statistical methods, such as time series analysis and spatial statistics.

OVERVIEW

Due to the proliferation of data sets that are both spatially and temporally indexed, spatio-temporal modeling has received an increasing attention in the last few years. Spatio-temporal data are usually related to applied areas, such as epidemiology and health science.

The spatio-temporal data analyses focus, namely, on:

  • reading, visualizing, and analyzing spatial data, where observations can be identified with geographical locations;
  • generating hypotheses for further ecological or epidemiological study;
  • producing a smoothed map, identifying spatial and temporal trends;
  • formulating policy decisions related to certain disease over space and time.

The invited speakers will present their methodological advancements with a heavy emphasis on applications. A poster session with contributed papers will complement the scientific program.

Invited Speakers:
Andrea Riebler (Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway)
Daniela Cocchi (University of Bologna, Italy) – Still to be confirmed
David Conesa (University of Valencia, Spain)
Lola Ugarte (Public University of Navarra, Spain)
Inês Sousa (University of Minho, Portugal)
Sujit Sahu (University of Southampton, UK)
